Job description

Fitter (Underground) job vacancy in Newcastle.

We are seeking qualified and experienced Underground Fitters for a limited duration contract within a coal mine near Newcastle.

You will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of mechanical mining equipment, flameproof systems and conveyors on shift-based operations.

Type: Limited Duration Contract (3 – 6 months, with opportunity to go permanent).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on underground mining equipment.
• Strip, assess, and rebuild flameproof hydraulic systems and conventional mechanical components.
• Fault-finding and troubleshooting of underground rigging and conveyor systems.
• Perform flameproofing checks, gas testing, and ensure site safety compliance.
• Maintain compliance documentation for inspections, repairs, and underground logs.

Requirements:

• Trade Test Fitter (Mining / Underground) – Section 13/26D
• Min 3–4 years Colliery / Coal Mining experience – essential
• Flameproofing (Attach certificate with application)
• Gas Testing (Attach certificate with application)
• Exp with underground machines JAE Scoops, Coal Cutter, Roof Bolter, Main Fans, Feeder breaks, 11KV + MV.
• Grade 12 / N3 Certificate
• 3+ years’ experience with conveyor belts, underground mechanised and conventional sections, and rigging
• Prepared to work shifts (Day & Night) and overtime
• Code B Driver’s License
• Must be medically fit to work underground
