Job description

My client, a leading and well-known Manufacturing Company based in Maitland, Cape Town, requires a competent and experienced Fitter and Turner Autos Press and Plating Team Leader to join their team.

This position reports to the Manufacturing Executive.

Purpose of the position

To manufacture products/components by supervising staff, reporting on performance, organizing, and monitoring workflow.

To ensure that products/components are produced according to specifications (Quality), within the planned time (Efficiency), and at the correct cost (Reduced waste/Productivity improvements).

To uphold company policies and procedures and lead improvement projects within the relevant work areas.

Requirements:

• Trade Tested Fitter and Turner or Toolmaker ESSENTIAL
• A minimum of 5 years related experience in the Manufacturing Industry
• At least 5 years Production Lead or Management experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
• Press tool production line, lathe production line, chemical plating plant experience is non-negotiable
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 is a huge advantage
• Highly skilled in Excel, Word, and Outlook
• SA Citizens only
• Criminal Clearance
• Must reside in the Greater Cape Town area
• Fluent in English or Afrikaans
• Willing to work overtime when needed

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Achieve production performance by ensuring operations align with planning (Production Method, Time, Quality)
• Record and report daily production data
• Identify and address bottlenecks, implement corrective actions
• Achieve the Production Plan, make up for lost time or scrap components
• Ensure correct staffing and shift coverage
• Highlight adverse trends for remedial action
• Ensure processes meet Quality, Capability, Capacity, and Legal standards
• Maintain quality standards and adhere to the Quality Manual
• Handle quality issues promptly and ensure equipment maintenance
• Manage staff through training, coaching, counseling, and discipline
• Control absenteeism and enforce policies
• Record and ensure staff training
• Ensure stock control and adherence to ERP systems
• Manage work orders, scrap, and rejects
• Implement Lean Manufacturing principles, maintain housekeeping, 5S, and visual management
• Oversee daily operations across Autos, Press, and Plating sections
• Ensure operational readiness of machines, monitor consumables, troubleshoot tooling issues
• Conduct routine machine and equipment checks
• Track production metrics and suggest improvements
• Provide technical support
• Ensure a safe working environment and compliance with safety procedures
• Foster good relations with supporting departments
• Control departmental costs
• Contribute to team efforts
