Job description

Position Summary:
iThemba LABS seeks to appoint a Fitter and Turner to manufacture components and systems according to drawing specifications, maintaining dimensional tolerance accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture mechanical parts based on detailed technical drawings and dimensional specifications.
  • Set up and operate workshop machinery and equipment.
  • Perform accurate manufacturing processes.
  • Design and manufacture jigs and fixtures to facilitate machining.
  • Select appropriate tools, feeds, speeds, and materials for each job.
  • Ensure that the job meets quality control requirements and SOPs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / National Certificate / Vocational 4 / N3, N4, N5 / NQF 4.

Minimum Experience:
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • NQF4/NTC 3 and Trade Tested in Fitting and Turning.

Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years post-apprenticeship experience in a high precision and industrial environment.

Knowledge:
  • Operational knowledge of machining and turning.
  • Operational knowledge of fitting.
  • Reading technical drawings.
  • Operational knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Proficiency in using lathes, milling machines, and other machining tools.
  • Understanding of quality control.

Additional Notes:
Attention to detail, ability to work independently and in a team, technical skills, analytical thinking, good communication skills, physically fit and capable.
