Job summary

A leading global packaging and paper company in Durban seeks a Fitter and Turner. Responsibilities include repairing rotating equipment, adhering to Health and Safety policies, and providing detailed reports. Qualifications

• 3 years’ experience in a relevant heavy industry.
• At least 3 years Fitting & Turning experience.
• Knowledge of pulp and paper equipment is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Repair and overhaul rotating and auxiliary equipment.
• Manufacture, modify, and repair mechanical components.
• Strip, inspect, assemble, and balance rotating equipment.

Skills

Knowledge of rolls and rotating equipment

Ability to repair and assemble machinery

Knowledge of measuring equipment

Experience in heavy industry

Education

Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate

N3 (Fitting & Turning trade theory)

N6 desirable

Tools

Job description

• Have a detailed knowledge of rolls, rotating equipment, and various machinery (centre lathes, milling machines, slotting machine, pedestal drill, hydraulic presses, auxiliary equipment) and their repairs.
• Must be able to repair, overhaul, and assemble rotating and auxiliary equipment, bearings, and seals.
• Must have knowledge of measuring equipment, including tolerances and fits.
• Prepared to work overtime when required and carry out standby duties in Fitting / Turning.
• Must be able to manufacture, modify, and repair mechanical components according to specifications/drawings.
• Must be able to interpret drawings.
• Must be able to strip, inspect, assemble, and balance rotating equipment in accordance with relevant standards.
• Provide routine weekly and monthly reports.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety & Environmental policies of Mondi Paper.

Your profile:

• N3 (Fitting & Turning trade theory, Engineering Drawings, Math, Engineering Science)
• Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate
• N6 desirable
• 3 years’ experience in a relevant heavy industry
• At least 3 years Fitting & Turning experience
• Knowledge of pulp and paper equipment is advantageous
• Overhead Crane License
• Forklift License
