Job summary

Nestlé Estcourt Factory is seeking a Fitter to install and maintain engineering equipment, ensuring safe operation and adherence to SABS code and internal standards. You will perform fault finding, breakdown responses, and participate in new installations and CDM/MDWT activities.

The role is primarily day shifts with possible overtime. Requires a trade apprenticeship with a certificate and at least 2 years in a mechanical field, plus strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Matric and N3 certificate.
• Served Apprenticeship and Trade Test Certificate.
• Minimum two years’ experience in Mechanical field.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SAP and AMM).

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance on plant.
• Prevent breakdowns on patrols and improve equipment performance.
• Install, service, repair and maintain equipment.
• Analyze and address recurrent faults.
• Ensure machine availability for production targets.
• Follow safety and AMM/SHE/CDM procedures.

Position Summary

The Fitter will Install and maintain engineering equipment in first class working condition, they will ensure efficient safe operation of machinery by setting and adjusting devices to within allowed tolerances. All work carried out on premises must conform to SABS code and internal standards if more stringent in all areas of engineering, quality and safety, health & environment. Fault finding and attending to breakdowns. Complete the necessary administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, CDM. To be actively involved with new project installations, CDM and MDWT.

A day in the life of a Fitter

• Carry out the planned maintenance required on plant.
• Incumbent must be proactive and prevent breakdowns on his/her patrols and shows initiative to continuously improve equipment performance.
• Install, service, repair and maintain existing and new equipment.
• Follow up and recommend actions to overcome and improve problems encountered.
• Attend to mechanical l faults and breakdowns in all areas of the factory.
• Analyzing and investigating re-current faults.
• Improve functional ease of maintenance, cleaning, reliability of equipment

• Repairs must be carried out quickly (first time right) and efficiently.
• Maintain high standard of work.
• Ensure machine availability for production targets to be met.
• This is primarily a day‑shift role; however, the incumbent may be required to work overtime, standby or shifts in line with operational and company requirements.
• Lockout & permit procedure is to be always used when any person could be exposed to danger by the inadvertent start of machinery.
• Ensure any dangerous conditions must be made safe immediately.
• Ensure that all work is performed and plant performs to always protect product safety.
• To correct errors on drawings and update drawings.
• Complete the necessary administrative tasks for AMM, SHE, CDM and MDWT.
• Actively involved in CDM and MDWT activities

• Carry out visual inspections and sign the appropriate legal registers of the following as per OHS act: All types lifting equipment [slings, chain blocks, etc.].
