Job summary

Network Finance seeks a Fire Detection Design Engineer to join its engineering team in South Africa. The successful candidate will design, engineer, document and support fire detection and alarm systems across commercial, industrial, mining environments, coordinating with clients and installation teams.

The role requires a BEng/BSc in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering, experience in fire detection design, proficiency in AutoCAD, and knowledge of SA fire standards; travel to project

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or related discipline.
• Relevant experience in fire detection and alarm system design.
• Strong understanding of electrical and electronic systems.
• Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent design software.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of South African fire protection standards and regulations.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Design fire detection and alarm systems in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
• Develop detailed fire detection layouts, system schematics and technical drawings.
• Perform system calculations and equipment selection.
• Develop equipment schedules, cable schedules, cause-and-effect matrices and technical specifications.
• Select appropriate fire detection equipment, panels, modules, detectors and associated devices.
• Review architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings to coordinate fire detection system designs.
• Prepare design documentation, specifications, datasheets and technical submissions.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant SANS, NFPA and other applicable fire protection standards.
• Assist with tender documentation, bills of quantities and technical proposals.
• Review designs and drawings for accuracy, compliance and constructability.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers and installation teams.
• Provide technical support during installation, testing and commissioning.
• Attend site meetings and inspections when required.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical design and installation issues.
• Conduct design reviews and ensure projects are delivered within deadlines and budgets.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and revision control.
