Financial Sector Policy Research Manager

Krutham is a leading consulting firm focused on developing financial systems to better achieve social goals.

About the role

Due to increasing demand from governments and other clients, we are now recruiting a senior position to manage our Financial Sector Policy Research team at Krutham.

This role is integral to our policy advisory vertical, working at the intersection of financial regulation, economic policy, and institutional reform.

You will lead a team supporting clients ranging from governments to banks in developing, interpreting, and assessing financial sector policy across South Africa and other African markets.

This position reports to the executive chairman.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead and manage a team of researchers focused on financial sector policy development and analysis
  • Oversee high-profile projects on regulatory reform in areas including financial sector competitiveness, impact investing, banking risk management, fund management and other themes
  • Develop and maintain client relationships with government entities, financial institutions, and international organisations
  • Drive research initiatives that provide evidence-based policy recommendations with practical applications
  • Produce thought leadership content that establishes Krutham's position as a leading voice in financial sector policy
  • Open new doors and win new contracts to expand our business to deliver on our growth ambitions
  • Represent Krutham at industry conferences, policy forums, and other stakeholder engagements

Qualifications and required experience :

  • Advanced research degree such as MPhil or PhD in economics, public policy, or a related field
  • Significant experience in financial sector policymaking either in government, international multilaterals, or a major financial sector regulator
  • A history of outstanding research publications, including in academic journals and for business audiences
  • Deep insight into banking, policy development, and trends in financial sector regulation
  • Excellent project management skills with proven ability to deliver complex research initiatives on time and to budget
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing and developing professional teams
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to translate complex policy concepts for diverse audiences
  • Experience having managed a budget and successfully pursued new business through to concluding contracts with new clients
  • Experience with international multilaterals would be an advantage

Location and work arrangements

The position is based at our Sandton, Johannesburg office.

A flexible work policy is in place that allows employees flexibility to split time between the office and elsewhere, subject to application and eligibility.

The position is full time, though we would be open to considering part time arrangements for the right candidate.
