Job Summary

The job offers an opportunity to be an integral part of the Absa Group Risk: Enterprise Risk team in providing risk oversight, management, and influencing key business decisions through risk appetite, MI, and analytics.

The jobholder will support the management of all risks identified, measured, reported, and challenged to agreed standards across the Group.

Job Description
Accountability: Risk Analysis and Reporting
  • Identify and manage possible risks by staying informed of economic changes, market movements, and exposures.
  • Assess and manage risk monitoring against risk appetite limits, ensuring all controls are effective.
  • Provide meaningful commentary to support risk analysis and contribute to governance forums.
  • Develop and provide management information (MI) and reports as required by stakeholders.
  • Produce monthly risk reports for business and management.
  • Facilitate report compilation by providing data and MI in a useful format.
  • Ensure alignment across risk types in reporting.
  • Maintain high quality and standard of risk reports, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Continuously improve reporting processes and implement best practices.
  • Analyze data to identify trends for risk management improvement.
  • Conduct benchmarking activities, e.g., peer comparisons.
  • Review and monitor the bank's financial statements, performance, and budgets.
  • Evaluate the bank's portfolio for potential strategic financial improvements.
Accountability: Risk Appetite and Risk Profile
  • Support the management of the risk appetite framework with proper governance.
  • Assist in generating risk appetite parameters and monitor performance against them.
  • Coordinate annual risk appetite reviews.
  • Monitor risk profile performance, ensuring no breaches occur.
  • Provide timely and transparent reports comparing risk appetite and actual risk profile.
  • Analyze the group's risk profile for themes, concentrations, and correlations.
  • Assess macro-environment impacts on risk profile.
  • Ensure group-level limits and triggers are monitored and breaches addressed.
  • Consider non-financial risks like compliance, audit, operational risk.
  • Improve risk reporting standards and data aggregation.
Accountability: Stakeholder Management
  • Communicate strategic objectives for risk reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Build relationships with Key Risk Owners and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with internal customers to manage expectations.
  • Manage service offerings and SLAs.
  • Participate in risk management and strategic forums.
Accountability: Continuous Improvement and Growth
  • Stay updated on relevant knowledge and best practices.
  • Proactively address influencing events and find solutions.
Preferred Education

BSc / MSc Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science.

Preferred Experience

Minimum of 5-10 years in a quantitative risk management role, preferably banking; 2-5 years in business management. Experience with regulatory and economic capital measurement, various risk types, and reporting to senior management. High numeracy, innovative thinking, and strategic stakeholder interaction skills are essential.

Education

Bachelor's Degrees and Advanced Diplomas in Business, Commerce, and Management Studies (Required).
