Job description

Group Financial Manager

The Group Financial Manager is responsible for planning and directing financial accounting, budgeting, auditing, cash management, and other fiscal operations and functions.

This includes directing staff activities in maintaining, analyzing, and reporting financial accounting data, developing appropriate accounting systems, establishing necessary financial controls, approving various expenditures and obligations, planning and coordinating internal and external audits, and ensuring all activities conform to statutory legislation (including IFRS, Taxation Regulations, CIPC, and other applicable legislation) and company policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Establish, build, and maintain the financial monthly and annual reporting packs (management accounts).
  2. Reconcile the Management Accounts to the Monthly Ledgers (P&L to month AFS).
  3. Plan and direct financial accounting strategies in collaboration with the CFO.
  4. Establish a migration strategy from Xero to the next accounting system.
  5. Develop succession plans and build successors for key roles.
  6. Support regional CFOs in P&L format, design, and account mappings.
  7. Identify and implement software strategic directions.
  8. Oversee budgeting for LabourNet Group (HOF, Regions, Products, Cost of Sales, Opex, Capex).
  9. Assist with audit management and assumptions.
  10. Manage cash flow and other fiscal operations.
  11. Maintain, analyze, and report financial data.
  12. Develop appropriate accounting systems (Xero / Corporate Planning and monthly reporting packs).
  13. Establish financial controls and approve expenditures within budgets (Capex, Opex).
  14. Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring compliance.
  15. Ensure activities conform to legislation and policies.
  16. Handle capitalization of development and platform team costs.
  17. Prepare Spotlight and DraftWorx reports for the group.
  18. Manage B/S compliance and bank covenants.
  19. Review management accounts before interim releases to CFO and regions.
  20. Oversee insurance compliance and tenders, including renewals.
  21. Forecast cash flows and analyze projections.
  22. Manage Nedbank funding and relationships.
  23. Test controls across the group for effectiveness.
  24. Perform ratio analysis for the group.
  25. Approve bad debts write-offs (IFRS9).
  26. Prepare board packs for JVs and dividends calculations.
  27. Support LabourNet partner meetings with financial presentations.
  28. Map financial processes and systems across the company.
  29. Ensure revenue completeness and growth.
  30. Support and oversee the Financial Manager – Operations and Statutory Finance.
  31. Define strategy and structure for the finance team (reporting, culture, values).
  32. Sign-off on financial policies and procedures.
  33. Establish and oversee internal financial statements (AFS).
  34. Ensure fixed assets compliance.
  35. Provide accurate, timely financial information to internal customers.
  36. Oversee annual audits and compliance.
  37. Support product and IT budgets.
  38. Assist CFO with revenue and cost budgets, including HR.
  39. Manage trial balances monthly.
  40. Ensure timely reporting of FM output.
  41. Sign-off on quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
  42. Manage management accounts and performance dashboards.
  43. Own and maintain Xero system and account structures (VAT, classifications, mappings).
Desired Experience & Qualifications
  • CA(SA) or CIMA designation required.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word, BI, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
  • Minimum 5 years of financial system experience in reporting and ledger management.
  • Extensive report-building experience (Excel and BI tools).
  • At least 5 years in financial reporting at data consolidation level.
  • Deep knowledge of IFRS and IFRS SME.
  • Experience managing diverse finance roles (report building, group management accounts, systems migration).
  • Advanced budgeting skills across various cost centers and regions.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of data.
  • Proficiency with financial reporting packs and dashboards.
  • Experience with system migration and integration requirements.
  • Leadership skills in managing finance and budgets.
  • Strategic, creative, and analytical thinking.
  • Problem-solving skills for implementing and tracking changes within finance.
  • Advanced computer literacy, especially Excel and BI tools.
  • Strong financial and accounting skills with excellent academic record.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial operations and processes.
  • Proven experience in strategic finance modeling.
