Job description

Our client, a Project Advisory and Development Company providing consulting services across various infrastructure and project finance transactions, is looking to hire a Financial Modeller, based in Durban.

The Financial Modeller will be responsible for building and developing transaction financial models for both the private and public sector infrastructure and project finance initiatives. The ideal candidate will be involved in all aspects of creating and maintaining a range of financial models.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain appropriate financial models meeting the requirements of investors, sponsors, financiers, and/or procuring agencies as the case may be;
  2. Review, manage, and amend existing financial models;
  3. Prepare various reports and presentations, specifically in support of the financial models prepared or reviewed;
  4. Perform ad hoc analysis using financial models and/or datasets (e.g., data analysis, trend analysis);
  5. Assist in marking up and preparing reports and agreements, using inputs and results from the financial model;
  6. Attend meetings and interact with clients, lenders, investors, financiers, operations contractors, construction contractors, engineers, legal advisors, or government agencies as required;
  7. Develop the Company’s financial modelling competencies;
  8. Assist with new business development, e.g., tenders;
  9. Assist with general project management as needed.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc) or B.Com degree in financial mathematics, accounting, or statistics, with an interest in project and infrastructure finance; or a BEng (Engineering) with a financial focus;
  2. CFA / FMVA or CFI qualification beneficial;
  3. 3 to 5 years’ experience in project finance, corporate finance, or private equity;
  4. Strong financial modelling skills with high accuracy and numerical proficiency.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Analytically rigorous and detail-oriented, especially in numerical analysis;
  • Problem-solving orientation;
  • Ability to work independently and take accountability;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (VBA proficiency desirable), Word, and PowerPoint.
