Job description

Stellenbosch Primary School is a leading, well-resourced Afrikaans medium school in Stellenbosch, founded in 1934, with a current enrolment of 964 learners and 107 staff members across the school. The school has highly qualified and dedicated staff, an academic track record that is well above average, and offers an exceptionally broad range of sporting and cultural activities.

Stellenbosch Primary has a vacancy for a Financial Manager (CFO) with a starting date of 1 July 2025. The Financial Manager (CFO) should provide strategic financial direction and ensure effective and efficient financial management for the school and all trust activities.

Position type : Full-time with school holidays

Working location : Office based

Working hours : 08:30 - 14:30

Salary : Market related with performance bonus

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Financial Planning : Develop and implement long-term financial plans in alignment with the school's strategic goals. Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making at all school governance levels.
  2. Budget Management : Oversee the preparation and management of the annual budget. Prepare & present quarterly management accounts to the School Governing Body (SGB). Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to support school programs and initiatives. Cultivate relationships with sponsors, foundations, and other stakeholders to enhance fundraising efforts. Establish and guide investment strategy in accordance with the school's financial objectives. Manage and optimize the school's investment portfolio and allocate funds effectively.
  3. Financial Reporting & Compliance : Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with the Schools Act & WCED Regulations. Maintain robust internal controls and conduct risk assessments. Collaborate closely with the Headmaster, Board of Trustees, and other staff to drive financial and operational success. Act as a financial advisor on key organizational and managerial decisions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CA(SA) qualification will be beneficial.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, fundraising, and investment management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
