Financial Manager Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full financial function of multiple statutory entities.
- Prepare consolidated Management Accounts in line with deadlines, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Manage cash flow reporting and forecasting.
- Prepare consolidated Statement of Financial Position along with audit files.
- Ensure journal entries are accurately captured.
- Update income tax and deferred tax calculations.
- Maintain the accuracy of the fixed asset register on a rolling basis.
- Compile various financial reports for business management.
- Report monthly financial results to the executive committee.
- Analyze financial results of individual business units or cost centres against budgets, investigating variances.
- Reconcile and submit VAT and PAYE returns, liaising with SARS/tax practitioners on tax issues.
- Coordinate year-end audits with external auditors.
- Manage creditors’ reconciliations and payments, including review and approval of all payments and bank reconciliations.
- Liaise with banks regarding financing and banking issues.
- Coordinate and plan the annual budget process.
- Perform ad hoc tasks as assigned by the CFO.
People Management:
- Manage a team of over 10 accountants and a three-member creditors team.
- Provide leadership, structure, coaching, and mentoring to the finance team.
- Conduct performance evaluations and manage team development.
Qualifications:
- Technical accounting knowledge (IFRS); GAAP experience is advantageous.
- Experience with Evolution or other accounting packages.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proven leadership experience.
- Must be a South African resident.
