A reputable construction company in Johannesburg is seeking a Financial Manager to oversee financial management and strategic planning. This role requires substantial financial leadership experience, particularly in construction or civil engineering, and provides an opportunity for advancement into directorship roles. The ideal candidate should possess a BComm / Honours in Accounting and relevant professional registration.

Qualifications

Job description

Our client, a reputable and well-established construction company focused on medium to large-scale building projects, seeks to employ a Financial Manager with a solid background in financial leadership within the construction, property development, or civil engineering sectors.

This role is critical to ensuring the effective financial management and strategic planning of the business, and is ideal for a candidate who thrives in a technical and high-accountability environment and who is looking to develop into a directorship role.

  • You will have completed a BComm / Honours in Accounting or equivalent Finance qualification, coupled with Professional registration with CIMA, SAIPA, or similar body, with CIMA being preferred.
  • In addition, you will have a minimum of 6 years’ financial management experience , preferably in construction, property development, or a similarly technical sector.
  • Solid knowledge and working experience in :

Financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and capital expenditure.

  • Strategic financial oversight, cashflow management, and internal control frameworks.
  • BuildSmart or similar construction-focused accounting systems.
  • Financial reporting to executive teams and CEOs.
  • Taxation, VAT, statutory compliance (including cross-border), and audit coordination.
  • BEE verification processes with a target of maintaining a minimum Level 2 BEE rating .
  • Equipment and materials costing, commercial law, King IV corporate governance, and union / bargaining council negotiations.
  • Experience preparing and managing annual revenue, CAPEX, and operational budgets.
  • Proven ability to monitor pipeline revenue against costs to optimise financial performance and cashflow.
  • A valid driver’s licence , own reliable vehicle, and a clear criminal and credit record are essential.
