Job description

Job Purpose

To ensure professional and ethical financial practices and a cohesive finance service offering that is aligned with business strategy, and to ensure the functionality and sustained profitability of the Group. The Financial Director will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial related activities, and will also assume a strategic role in the overall management of the Group.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Develop and evaluate short and long-term strategic financial objectives for the Group, in line with overall business strategy

Provide input to the Board on the Group’s financial strategy to optimize the Group’s financial performance and strategic position

Design, recommend and manage the Group’s capital structure to maximise shareholder benefit. Contribute fully to the development of group strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets

and business drivers

Formulate and implement finance policies and procedures for the Group, to ensure achievement of Group financial objectives, monitoring for compliance

Ensure that company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth

Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the Group, ensuring healthy financial management

Responsible for the preparation of relevant and accurate information for Board Meetings, sub-committee meetings, presentations and shareholder meetings

Responsible for delivering all financial reporting requirements for the Group to comply with all relevant legislation and regulations including the Companies Act, the JSE requirements and King IV.

Ensure the effective management of processes for financial forecasting, budgets, consolidation and reporting for the Group

Manage and minimize the Group’s financial risk exposure by developing and maintaining systems of internal controls

Formulate and implement a risk matrix for the Group to assist the senior executives in managing the Group’s risks

Ensure compliance across the Group with corporate governance requirements; applicable local and international regulatory laws; and rules for financial and tax reporting, acting where non-compliance is identified

Formulate and implement a compliance report for the Group to assist the senior executives in managing and reporting compliance with various legislation impacting the Group

Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions; provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities, and provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations

Work with the CEO and CFO to design for Board approval, and implement agreed strategy to enhance shareholder returns and provide growth impetus for the Group

Work with the CEO and CFO to develop and implement Merger and Acquisition strategies in such a way to maximise shareholder value creation

Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including customers and advisors

Work with the CEO and CFO to establish a high level of credibility and manage relationships with investors

Effectively manage team members to produce best results and empowered individuals

Provide advice, guidance and support to the Group as required

Qualifications & Experience

Chartered Accountant CA (SA)
