Job description

Automotive concern, based in the North of Johannesburg, is looking for a Financial Controller CA(SA) to join their finance team. This is a succession planning role; this is a growth opportunity. The ideal candidate would be young and energetic.

POSITION INFO :

Minimum Requirements :

  • Qualified CA(SA)
  • Proven experience in dealing with different levels of staff within an organization
  • Proven experience in dealing with complex accounting topics
  • Proven experience in analysing financial information
  • Proven experience in forecasting and budgeting
  • Must be a problem solver and be able to work independently to obtain the correct information needed for decision making

Experience required :

  • 3 years articles experience / newly qualified CA(SA) essential
  • 1 to 2 years post qualifying experience is advantageous

Key Responsibilities

  • Review all financial information, taking time to analyse numbers
  • Identifying drivers of certain transactions, dependencies of transaction on other numbers within a set of financial information
  • Identifying areas of over and under spend and being able to translate this data and information to presentable figures for senior management to understand
  • Review key financial indicators on a day-to-day basis based on information recorded and produced by the various finance teams at each location within the group
  • Ensure the accurate recording of financial information, accurate reporting from Evolve, and accurate stock information is provided to all levels of management
  • Review deal sheets to ensure accuracy and provide comment and feedback on areas for improvement in terms of creating more GP for the business
  • Create templates for monitoring monthly performance of each business unit within the group against budgets and forecasts
  • Ensure all accruals, provisions and cost of sales is accurately recorded for month end reporting
  • Analyse and report on month end balance sheet and income statement performance for each department within the group
  • In collaboration with each departments sales team as well as the executive team, develop budgets that are realistic and push the business to grow.
  • These budgets are to be used to monitor performance against identifying variances and reporting on variances in terms of reasons behind and suggesting improvements to get back to budget
  • Budgets are to be updated every quarter to ensure the most realistic full year views are available for all financial information
  • In conjunction with the financial director, identify areas for cost saving, cost optimization and implement processes to achieve a set outcome within that cost structure
  • To ensure value in the growth opportunities, the financial controller will need to be actively involved in the day-to-day accounting of all projects related to the group
  • This will vary from new projects in commercial property to new dealerships and new investments
  • Ensure accurate recording of day-to-day transactions
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to financial director on all operations within the group
  • Manage cashflow in conjunction with financial director for all special projects
  • Develop and report on monthly performance for each special project

Process Controls – Monitoring and Implementation

  • Controls are in place and prevalent across the business.
  • Ensure controls are being adhered to by performing spot checks throughout the month
  • Report back to financial director on shortfalls within the control environment
  • Perform process activities documentation for each operation within each department and within each location of the business
  • In conjunction with the financial director, identify key business risks that require business controls to be implemented and financial risk that requires financial controls to be implemented

Skills Required :

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office related applications
  • Must be able to handle engagements with all levels of staff
  • Deadline driven and must have the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks
  • MS Office : Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience in Evolve would be advantageous
