The role

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to undertake the management of our Finance team based in our South Africa support center. This role will be accountable for developing high performing teams, delivering set KPI's and full ownership of compliance and regulatory reporting for the Africa region.

The Financial Controller - Africa will be responsible for:

  • Effective management of Finance team based in South Africa Support Centre, delivering on all set KPI’s and group goals
  • Provide coaching and development for Team leaders across Banking, AP/AR, Occupancy and General Ledger functions
  • Oversight of the financial reporting for Africa. This includes: - monthly financial reporting (Country P&Ls, Store related profit reporting - budgeting & forecasting – feeding into master forecast
  • Leading month-end and year-end close process for the Africa’s region as well as supporting EMEA Region
  • Manage the preparation of annual Financial Statements, external audits, corporate tax returns and Monthly VAT compliance for the Africa region.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Manage balance sheet reconciliations and sign off for the Africa region
  • Recruitment, training, mentoring and development of the team
  • Oversight of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Financial and Management Accounting functions as required
  • Advise and implement best practice methods to increase revenue and reduce costs
  • Driving process improvement
  • Involvement in ad-hoc projects as required

About you

To be successful for this role we are looking for someone with 10+ years of accounting and finance experience with a proven track record of delivering results. Someone who is a leader and not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get the work done.

  • Experience in finance roles in medium to large organisations, preferably with listed company experience
  • Excellent financial modelling skills and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • A capability and commitment to develop a winning operational team via effective leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Hiring of appropriate team aligning to the cultural aspirations of the business.
  • Must have a data focus driving and developing appropriate K.P.I’s
  • A capacity and desire to support peers in the wider team
  • The ability to absorb leading edge technology developments and execute in a manner that delivers lasting efficiency gain

Skills, knowledge and personal qualities required:

  • At least 10 years' working experience in a financial Controller / Finance manager role
  • Local statutory & compliance reporting experience
  • Strong leadership capability, able to lead a large team and effectively engage across a large global organisation
  • Excel – Advanced level
  • Strong financial & management accounting skills and experience
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience in Financial Software and dashboard tools (ie. Power BI) and delivery of business process efficiencies
  • Experience in providing quality insights to non-Finance team members to drive business performance
  • Retail Experience Desirable
