Job description

Financial Controller position available in Stellenbosch.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the daily finance functions for the Farming division.
2. Approve all farming-related invoices, POs, journals, and SVAs within 24 hours.
3. Manage and develop the Farming Admin team, including backup planning, cross-functional training, one-on-one meetings, and career development.
4. Prepare, report, and manage the Farming P&L; ensure accurate tonnage tracking in the T1 system; reconcile transport records with harvested and delivered tonnages; allocate basis costs per farm, crop, and silo.
5. Maintain system and reporting integrity through daily, monthly, and yearly reconciliations of Excel models with T1, SAP GL, MIS, and MBOR reports; review trade positions; ensure complete and accurate reporting in BPC, MBOR, SS, and WD4; manage SAP ERP system, including WBS management and uploading new farming locations.
6. Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including input into budgets, report management, and forecasting accuracy.
7. Ensure balance sheet accuracy and compliance through monthly BSI reconciliations, IFRS16 calculations via NESTA, inventory control via SHED, and valuation of biological assets.
8. Identify and implement process improvements and system automation, such as Power BI, to enhance efficiency and data integrity.
9. Manage internal and external audit queries, liaise with auditors, and prevent repeat findings related to inventory and IFRS16.
10. Support business operations by preparing farmer reconciliations, profitability analyses, acting as a liaison between farming operations and finance, supporting operational reporting, managing VAT and Diesel submissions, preparing the Farming Schedule A, and training staff as needed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Team management experience.
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
• Proficiency in English and Afrikaans (reading and writing).
• Industry experience is advantageous.
• Articles are advantageous.
