A dynamic finance firm in Johannesburg is seeking a Financial Controller to lead the finance team and oversee all accounting operations. Job description

Financial Controller position available in Wynberg, Johannesburg.

A hands-on finance leadership role overseeing full finance and accounting operations within a wholesale and distribution environment.

Key focus areas include accurate financial reporting, internal controls, working capital management, cost optimisation, and supporting strategic decision-making.

The role works closely with the Finance Director and leads a finance team to ensure strong financial governance and performance.

Reporting Line: Reports to the Finance Director.

Direct Reports: Accountants, Credit Controllers, Bookkeepers, and other Finance staff.

Salary: R1.1 million p.a. (max cap).

Requirements:

  • BCom Accounting or equivalent (Honours / CA(SA) / CIMA advantageous)
  • 3+ years in a finance management role, ideally in wholesale, FMCG, or distribution
  • Proven financial reporting, budgeting, and cost control experience
  • ERP proficiency (Syspro preferred)
  • Knowledge of IFRS, tax compliance, and financial regulations
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations (GL, AP/AR, stock, payroll)
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end reporting
  • Prepare management accounts and executive reporting packs
  • Ensure tax and statutory compliance (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax)
  • Manage annual audits and maintain IFRS compliance
  • Monitor costs and drive efficiency across departments
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
  • provide financial modelling and decision-support analysis
  • Oversee cash flow, working capital, and stock optimisation
  • Implement and maintain internal controls and financial policies
  • Ensure data accuracy across ERP and business systems (Syspro, Traild, Cranswick)
  • Align finance with logistics, procurement, and inventory functions
  • Develop and lead a high-performing finance team
