Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant (Insurance) to join a leading financial services provider. The role is vital in ensuring accurate financial reporting and reconciliation, supporting business strategy, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. The successful candidate will report to the Financial Manager (Insurance) and will be responsible for managing month-end deliverables, reconciliations, financial analysis, and supporting audits. The position requires a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Month-End Deliverables:
    • Prepare bordereaux and accounting schedules
    • Manage cashbook and ensure accurate postings of journals
    • Conduct system reconciliations, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and underwriter reconciliations
    • Prepare and distribute management accounts within required deadlines
    • Coordinate and ensure accurate accounting for deliverables from other finance departments such as Credit Control, Commissions, and Claim Payments
    • Address ad hoc queries promptly and efficiently
  2. Financial Planning and Reporting:
    • Assist in budget preparation and forecasting cycles
    • Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Contribute to the identification and implementation of internal control improvements
    • Provide insightful financial analysis to support business decision-making
  3. General Support and Improvement:
    • Identify and suggest improvements for financial systems and processes
    • Participate in continuous learning initiatives to improve work quality and enhance personal skills
    • Uphold company values and contribute positively to the company culture

Experience & Qualifications

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • B. Com. degree (Accounting major or similar) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' post-graduation experience in financial accounting
  • Experience with MS GreatPlains (GP) and GRID is advantageous
  • System accounting experience is a plus
