Job summary

A proudly South African food processing company is seeking a Financial Accountant for a 6-month fixed-term contract at Waterfront, Cape Town. The role covers general ledger, cashbook, fixed assets and intercompany accounting within the SA Fishing Division and related entities.

The successful candidate will manage month-end close, bank reconciliations, VAT submissions and intercompany reconciliations while contributing to budgeting and financial analysis with strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience in general ledger, cashbook and intercompany processing.
• BCom in Accounting or equivalent qualification.
• Strong Excel and ERP experience with VAT knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Manage cashbook entries and monthly bank reconciliations across entities.
• Prepare and process ad hoc EFT payments per policy.
• Prepare VAT201 submissions and VAT calculations.
• Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation calculations.
• Prepare monthly general ledger journals and accruals.
• Perform balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations.

Financial Accountant | 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract | Waterfront, Cape Town | Industry: FMCG | Fixed-Term Contract (6 Months) with possibility of going permanent

A proudly South African food processing company, is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Financial Accountant to join its General Ledger team at its Waterfront offices in Cape Town.

Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, the successful candidate will provide financial accounting and administrative support across the companies within the SA Fishing Division and related entities.

The role will focus on general ledger accounting, cashbook and bank reconciliations, fixed asset management, intercompany transactions, statutory compliance and financial reporting. The successful candidate must be technically strong, detail-oriented and capable of working independently while supporting the broader finance team.

• Manage cashbook entries and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple entities.
• Prepare and process ad hoc EFT payments in line with company policies and approval processes.
• Prepare income tax schedules, VAT calculations and VAT201 submissions.
• Maintain the fixed asset register, process disposals and reallocations, calculate depreciation and complete annual asset verifications.
• Prepare monthly general ledger journals, including accruals, provisions, prepayments, interest, inventory and diesel rebate journals.
• Perform monthly balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, resolving discrepancies.
• Ensure financial compliance, maintain supporting documentation and complete annual insurance submissions.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, CAPSTA reporting and financial analysis.
• Provide ad hoc financial reporting and accounting support to senior finance personnel.

Job Experience & Skills Required:

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 with Mathematics.
• BCom Degree with Accounting as a major.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in general ledger accounting, cashbook processing and intercompany transactions.
• Strong financial acumen and accounting knowledge.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Business Central or similar.
• Good knowledge of VAT legislation and tax compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong general ledger accounting and financial reporting skills.
• Advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency.
• Sound knowledge of VAT, taxation and statutory compliance.
• Practical experience in bank reconciliations, fixed assets and intercompany accounting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
