About the Role

The Financial Accountant plays a crucial role in managing and reporting the financial information of a group of companies within an organization. The position requires a strong background in accounting, financial reporting, and compliance with local and international standards.

The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the financial health and compliance of the organization, playing a pivotal role in decision-making and long-term financial planning for the group.

Location: Stellenbosch, South Africa

Responsibilities:

  1. Banking: Verify payments loaded by bookkeepers and manage banking administration (arranging of corporate cards, new accounts, etc.)
  2. Accurate reporting of assets: Maintain fixed asset registers, ensure assets are capitalized and written off according to policies, and communicate asset transactions with insurance brokers.
  3. Tax compliance: Assist in tax planning and compliance, prepare tax calculations, and work with outsourced accountants on tax obligations.
  4. Payroll assistance: Support HR with payroll calculations and reporting.
  5. Financial reporting: Finalize trial balances, ensure account reconciliations, prepare monthly reports, and conduct initial budget variance analyses.
  6. Deadline management: Maintain finance calendar and lead planning meetings.
  7. Audit coordination: Manage annual audits, ensure compliance, and review financial statements and tax returns.
  8. Budgeting and forecasting: Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  9. Financial analysis: Analyze data to identify trends and provide insights.
  10. System improvements: Streamline financial reporting processes.
  11. Inventory reconciliations: Ensure stock takes and reconcile counts.
  12. Group reconciliations: Allocate and reconcile intercompany transactions, ensuring compliance.
  13. Internal controls: Assist in developing and maintaining controls to safeguard assets.
  14. Exchange control compliance: Support foreign payment declarations and compliance processes.
  15. Team leadership: Lead a team of bookkeepers, manage tasks, and monitor performance.
  16. Ad-hoc projects: Lead special financial projects, process improvements, or cost-saving initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Financial Management
  • Knowledge of IFRS for SMEs, audit, taxation, payroll
  • 4+ years of experience
