Job description

We are proud to be partnering with a global technology company that provides advanced solutions for underground mining and tunnelling. With operations in over 30 countries, this organization is known for its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in challenging environments.

  • Having collaborated with a trusted international leader in underground mining equipment, chemical solutions, and lifecycle services, we are now supporting their search for a Financial Accountant to join their South African finance team based in Johannesburg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in line with IFRS and internal reporting standards. Ensure timely month-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded. Monitor and resolve discrepancies, and ensure accounts are properly reconciled and substantiated.
  • Statutory Compliance: Oversee compliance with local tax, VAT, and other statutory requirements. Prepare and submit relevant tax returns and liaise with external advisors or authorities where necessary to ensure full compliance.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate and manage internal and external audits. Provide auditors with necessary documentation and explanations and implement audit recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts. Work with operational departments to gather input, ensure alignment, and provide financial insight for planning purposes.
  • Cost Control and Analysis: Monitor and analyze cost drivers, operational expenditure, and project-related spending. Provide insights and recommendations to improve financial efficiency and control.
  • ERP and System Use: Leverage the company’s ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) for transaction processing, reporting, and data management. Ensure data integrity and contribute to ongoing improvements in financial systems and processes.
  • Business Partnering: Act as a finance partner to the operational and commercial teams, providing financial input to support business decisions, tender processes, and capital expenditure justifications.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve accounting and reporting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance. Identify automation opportunities and support digital transformation efforts in the finance function.
  • Group Reporting Liaison: Serve as the local point of contact for the global finance team, ensuring adherence to group policies, timelines, and strategic financial objectives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; SAIPA or SAICA qualification preferred
  • 3–5 years of relevant post-article experience in a financial accounting role
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation
  • Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Background in mining, construction, industrial manufacturing, or related sectors is advantageous
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage deadlines independently
