Who are we?

Roam Africa is the central team of multiple online marketplace businesses in Africa. We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission of delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting.

As a Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for managing general accounting functions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in corporate and statutory reporting, providing technical expertise in IFRS and GAAP and working collaboratively across teams to drive financial excellence.

Some of what will you do?

  • Review processing of all bank accounts and credit cards
  • Post-month-end journal entries and ensure financial records are accurate and complete.
  • Review journal entries posted by junior accountants as a first-level check.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review reconciliations submitted.
  • Update and maintain monthly management reports, providing variance analysis.
  • Compare budget vs actual costs, investigating and explaining discrepancies.
  • Prepare and upload financial files
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Post payroll journal entries and intercompany recharges into Xero.
  • Monitor cash balances and ensure liquidity.
  • Supervise bank statement uploads and perform the first release on payments below $2.5k.
  • Manage supplier settlements, debit orders, and credit card controls.
  • Ensure incoming accounts mailbox requests are actioned.
  • Track and renew annual and monthly SARB applications as required.
  • Ensure timely invoice processing, payments, and receipts.
  • Manage debtors' statements and follow up on outstanding collections.
  • Review intercompany recharges and oversee financial transactions across subsidiaries.
  • Prepare EMP501 schedules and VAT reconciliations for FM review.
  • Load EMP201 reports in SARS e-filing and process tax payments.
  • Prepare provisional tax calculations for FM review and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation.
  • Manage invoice approvals before processing payments.
  • Conduct bank reconciliation reviews and assist in developing financial reports and models.


Requirements

What will you bring?

  • BCom in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • SAICA / SAIPA articles are required.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a similar role.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Xero).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP/IFRS principles.
  • Experience with taxation and E-filing.
  • Ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide insights.
  • Experience in financial modelling and data analysis (advantageous).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to operate in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work in a lean team and go beyond the call of duty when needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-player mindset.
