Job description

Job Family: Finance Accounting

Job Purpose: To provide specialist advice and guidance on financial performance and accounting practices required to ensure the clusters' compliance and adherence to financial reporting and meeting set financial targets.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the preparation and the external audit of high-quality annual financial statements for Nedbank Group and Nedbank Limited, including the preparation of high-quality interim financial statements for Nedbank Group Limited.
  2. Deliver regular financial reports (e.g., monthly Opcom Lite financial templates) to functional teams by adhering to the set financial timetable.
  3. Drive the adoption of automated technology solutions for financial reporting, including SAP BPC and Disclosure Management.
  4. Share knowledge and industry trends related to financial reporting with functional teams and relevant stakeholders during formal and informal interactions.
  5. Obtain buy-in for developing new, enhanced, or automated processes (e.g., financial reporting processes) that will improve the functioning of business units by highlighting benefits in support of the implementation of recommendations.
  6. Provide financial decision support to business leaders through regular engagements with relevant line management and teams.
  7. Cooperate daily with cluster line management and business teams on different levels of the organizational structure through consultations and resolution of financial queries.
  8. Provide meaningful recommendations, explanations, and highlight areas of concern or anomalies by analyzing and interrogating financial information.
  9. Understand and meet stakeholders' requirements through ongoing engagement.
  10. Act as a subject matter expert by actively participating in the design, preparation, and supervision of the financial performance of the relevant business units.
  11. Assist in achieving group collaboration initiatives by identifying opportunities to create beneficial partnerships and synergies.
  12. Cooperate with internal and external auditors by supplying the required financial information timeously.
  13. Advise and assist business units to comply with set financial targets and relevant regulatory financial frameworks.
  14. Evaluate financial statements and set appropriate guidelines and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  15. Meet deadlines and targets through effective prioritization, planning, and communication.
  16. Maintain high standards of analysis and reporting within defined timeframes by planning, organizing, and monitoring workflow.
  17. Achieve business objectives within specific timeframes by scheduling and coordinating activities and identifying appropriate resources.
  18. Manage defined risks in the finance function and risk categories at targeted levels by adhering to guidelines, policies, procedures, and governance requirements.
  19. Identify training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from management.
  20. Ensure all personal development plan activities are completed within specified timeframes.
  21. Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank culture-building initiatives (e.g., staff surveys, etc.).
  22. Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g., Green Strategy).

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level:

  1. Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  2. Advanced Diplomas / National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification:

  1. BCom Degree (Accounting)
  2. CA (SA)

Minimum Experience Level:

5 years in financial management, preferably in the financial services industry.
