A logistics company in Cape Town is seeking a Shipping Clerk to manage import documentation and ensure timely delivery of shipments. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in shipping or imports and strong skills in MS Excel and Oracle Financials. This full-time role involves liaising with suppliers and resolving discrepancies in shipments, ensuring efficient operations in the logistics chain.

Qualifications

  • Matric plus extensive work experience (minimum 5 years).
  • Shipping / Import experience essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of import documentation and procedures essential.
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Excel essential.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Control all import documentation per consignment.
  • Track and monitor all incoming shipments.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to imported goods.
  • Liaise with local and overseas suppliers.
  • Process foreign payments via banking platforms.

Job description

Duties & Responsibilities

Our client is seeking a Shipping Clerk to join their team. You will be responsible for controlling all import documentation per consignment and ensuring correct documentation is sent to the clearing agent for customs clearance, including:

  • Opening and recording shipments upon receipt of import documentation
  • Tracking and monitoring all incoming shipments to ensure proper documentation and timely delivery
  • Investigating and resolving discrepancies related to imported goods
  • Monitoring the status reports of forwarding agents for all incoming shipments
  • Liaising with local and overseas suppliers via email
  • Processing foreign payments via banking platforms
  • Capturing and processing local payments
  • Preparing monthly costings
  • Setting up weekly bookings and checking in of Buyers samples
  • Reconciling related monthly general ledger accounts
  • Processing journals to Buyers expense account for purchased samples
  • Filing and maintaining original shipping documents
