About the Role
We are seeking a Finance Officer to support the Isivivana Centre Director in maintaining robust financial management systems. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth financial operation of the Centre.
Key Responsibilities
As a Finance Officer, you will be responsible for a wide range of financial activities, including:
- Financial Operations: Managing accounts receivable and payable, processing reimbursements, maintaining detailed transaction records, and preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports.
- Reporting & Reconciliation: Tracking and reconciling bank statements (including multiple ABSA accounts, Investec, and Webber Wentzel), preparing balance sheets, reporting on financial projections, and processing tax payments (including VAT).
- Payroll Management: Preparing and processing monthly payroll, maintaining records, and managing staff loans.
- Audit & Compliance: Assisting with quarterly and annual audits, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting practices, and identifying and addressing account discrepancies.
- Asset Management: Updating and maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Financial Review: Conducting analytical reviews of financial statements, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and managing the tenant schedule to assess risk and ensure full occupancy.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Building relationships with tenants, trustees, and community leaders, and providing support for Human Resources matters as needed.
Requirements
- Education: An appropriate 3-year tertiary qualification (Bachelor's degree) in Accounting (NQF 7).
- Experience: 2-4 years of relevant experience in a finance environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Working understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP).
- Experience with Xero or other financial systems.
- Proficient in report writing.
- Computer literate.
- Other: Valid Driver's License (no vehicle restrictions).
Advantageous Experience & Competencies
- Familiarity with Isivivana Centre tenants and their work within the building and community.
- Experience in updating trustees on financial matters and implementing their instructions.
- Ability to establish a presence within the Khayelitsha community as a representative of the Centre.
- Experience in supporting staff with Human Resources issues.
