Job summary

Communicate Finance in South Africa is seeking a Tax & Audit Specialist to take ownership of SARS audit requirements, engage with SARS representatives, and prepare documentation for audits, verifications, and information requests.

With 4–6 years of related experience and SAICA/SAIPA/Tax qualification, you'll analyse tax and audit matters, ensure VAT and income tax compliance, liaise with external auditors and internal stakeholders, and implement controls to strengthen compliance.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of all outstanding SARS audit requirements and drive matters through to successful resolution
• Engage directly with SARS representatives and maintain professional working relationships to facilitate efficient outcomes
• Prepare, review, and submit supporting documentation required for SARS audits, verifications, disputes, and information requests
• Investigate and resolve historic audit findings, compliance gaps, and tax-related backlogs
• Coordinate responses to SARS queries within required deadlines
• Analyse complex tax, financial, and audit-related matters and provide practical solutions
• Ensure compliance with VAT, Income Tax, PAYE, and other relevant statutory requirements
• Review financial records and supporting documentation to validate compliance and identify areas of risk
• Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and internal stakeholders where required
• Support the preparation and submission of tax returns and reconciliations
• Identify process weaknesses and implement controls to strengthen compliance and reduce future audit exposure
• Provide technical guidance to finance teams on tax, audit, and regulatory matters
• Maintain accurate records and audit trails for all SARS-related engagements
