Job summary

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) invites applicants for a two-year internship in its Finance Unit. The role supports invoicing, payments, reconciliations and general finance duties under supervision.

Open to unemployed South Africans who have never participated in an internship; closing date 01 September 2026. Successful candidates will gain practical experience and mentorship in financial control and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / matric required for internship eligibility.
  • National Diploma in Financial Accounting (NQF6) is required; degree an advantage.
  • Strong MS Office and basic accounting software skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process invoices and electronic payments.
  • Reconcile creditor statements and bank accounts.
  • Record journals and maintain internal controls.
  • General finance administration and supervisor-supported duties.

Duration: Two-Year Programme

Monthly Stipend: R 9, 306.18

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA)operatingunder the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The MQA is mandated by the Skills Development Act (SDA) 97 of 1998 to drive skills development within the mining and minerals sector (MMS). Its scope covers a diverse range of sub-sectors, including Coal Mining, Gold Mining, Platinum Group Metals (PGM) Mining, Diamond Mining, other mining commodities, Cement, Lime, Aggregates, and Sand, as well as services related to the mining industry, Diamond Processing, and Jewellery Manufacturing.

The MQA would like to invite qualifying individuals to apply for an internship opportunity within its Finance Unit. Unemployed individualswho have never participated in an internship programmeare invited to apply. This opportunity is only available for South African Citizens. The successful intern will be appointed for a period oftwenty-four (24) months.

Reporting to the Finance Manager; the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Processing invoices on the accounting software;
  • Processing electronic payments;
  • Creditor's statement reconciliations;
  • Processing journals;
  • Creditors control account reconciliations;
  • Bank reconciliations;
  • Financial internal controls;
  • General administration in a finance environment;
  • Any other functions as delegated by the supervisor
Minimum Requirements:
  • A grade 12 or matric certificate;
  • National Diploma or equivalent at NQF Level 6 in the Financial Accounting field;
  • A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent at NQF Level 7 in the Financial and Accounting field will be an added advantage.
Competencies.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages
  • An understanding of legislation and developments pertaining to education and training;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • A proactive attitude;
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
