The purpose of this role is to lead the business and its development through collaboration with the Executive Team, Board of Directors, and finance team. To direct, add value, and enable business decisions through strong leadership capabilities, exceptional strategic thinking, and attention to detail. The role requires an understanding of South African financial and compliance regulations.

The role will report to the Managing Director of the division and have three direct reports.

Main activities will include :

  1. Overall responsibility and oversight of the division’s financial department and results.
  2. Responsibility for all financial matters, including management and financial reporting; budget development, planning, analysis, billing, debtors, creditors, and fund accounting.
  3. Management of operational matters, including directing staff and monthly payroll.
  4. Leading financial processes while ensuring cost containment and financial discipline, effective management of internal and external audits.

Strategic Financial Leadership :

  1. Lead the development and implementation of the division's financial strategy in alignment with business objectives.
  2. Advise the executive team and board on financial planning, forecasting, and risk management.
  3. Champion projects with broad organizational implications by aligning and influencing key stakeholders.
  4. Provide insights to support business growth, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.
  5. Participate in board, executive, and insurance fund committees.

Financial Management & Reporting :

  1. Oversee accounting standards and their implementation within the organization.
  2. Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports in compliance with IFRS and South African regulations.
  3. Ensure the integrity of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  4. Identify and implement best practices in management; provide strategic insights on report content.
  5. Develop and drive the use of financial and operational indicators.

Analysis, Forecasting & Budgeting :

  1. Lead budgeting and forecasting processes aligned with business objectives.
  2. Set standards for business analysis to support strategic decisions; develop finance solutions for complex, high-value decisions including risk and delivery.

Financial Process, Control, Compliance & Risk Management :

  1. Analyze insurance product performance and collaborate with actuaries.
  2. Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulations, and governance standards in South Africa.
  3. Manage internal controls and implement risk mitigation practices.
  4. Identify and manage financial risks, developing appropriate risk management frameworks.
  5. Oversee audits and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  6. Set targets for process improvements and ensure systematic implementation.

Team Leadership & Development :

  1. Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
  2. Ensure staff training, performance evaluations, and succession planning.
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, and strong analytical skills.
  4. Maintain attention to detail and the ability to multitask under pressure.
  5. Ensure internal controls are in place to mitigate risks and safeguard assets.
  6. Experience with business and financial systems, strong communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office.
  7. Possession of CA (SA) qualification, 10+ years post-articles, and experience across industries including financial services. Experience in financial risk management in insurance is advantageous. Must have a clear criminal and credit record and align with company values.
