Job description

As the Financial Director, you will report to the Group CFO / Executive Committee and be responsible for all financial aspects of the Construction and Contract Mining Division. You’ll lead and mentor at least five regional Finance Managers across operating entities in multiple African countries. This role demands a hands-on leader who can drive profitability, manage complex risks, ensure cash flow discipline, and support crucial commercial decision-making within a challenging and rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Strategic Financial Leadership : Drive financial strategy, lead budgeting and forecasting, advise on capital allocation and risk management, and participate in strategic decisions like joint ventures, tenders, and new market entry to support the group’s long-term growth objectives.
  • Oversight of Regional Financial Operations : Oversee the financial performance of operating companies across various regions, provide guidance and mentorship to regional Financial Managers, and standardize financial reporting, costing methodologies, and internal controls across all operations.
  • Reporting and Compliance : Consolidate monthly management accounts, provide insightful variance analysis, ensure compliance with IFRS and local GAAPs, manage external audit processes for timely finalization of audited financial statements, and, along with the Group IT Director, drive improvement in current reporting efficiencies for accurate and timeous reports.
  • Cash Flow & Working Capital Management : Monitor and manage divisional cash flows, including intercompany funding arrangements, working capital, and capital expenditure; identify risks to liquidity and implement corrective measures; and oversee treasury functions and foreign currency exposures.
  • Commercial & Project Finance Support : Review major contracts and capital projects for financial viability and risk exposure; monitor project-level performance, profitability, and cash flow burn rates; and build on established relationships with key banking partners to drive improvement in funding structures.
  • Governance & Risk Management : Ensure robust internal control frameworks are in place and adhered to in each entity; lead financial risk assessments across jurisdictions, including taxation, foreign exchange, compliance, and operational risks; and serve as the key point of contact for legal, tax, and regulatory matters impacting the division.

What We’re Looking For :

  • Experience : Minimum 10-15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior role overseeing multi-country operations. Strong commercial exposure and understanding of the construction and / or contract mining industry (construction preferred). Strong working knowledge of IFRS. Comfortable with ERP systems; experience with Sage X3 is a plus.
  • Skills : Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities. Strong commercial and strategic acumen. Ability to work under pressure, manage complexity, and ensure cash flow discipline. Proven ability to build high-performance finance teams in decentralized environments. Comfortable working knowledge of ERP systems and a strong driver in linking both IT and finance functions.
  • Travel : Expected travel of 20-25% to various international offices and project sites.
