SUMMARY: Our client, a Private School located in the heart of Durban's Berea, requires a Business Manager responsible for the Finance and Facilities functions of the School. The Business Manager is expected to achieve revenue targets and expenditure control to meet strategic objectives.
POSITION INFO:
Job Profile: Operational Management & Leadership
- Prepare, develop, and maintain long-term finance strategies and policies aligned with the overall strategy.
- Prepare the annual School budget in accordance with the school's strategy and ensure that individual school/department budgets contribute to the school strategy.
- Identify opportunities for additional revenue and cost savings to ensure the overall business plan is met.
- Manage the Financial Department and oversee financial reporting systems for optimal information availability.
- Manage cash flow efficiently.
- Determine and negotiate optimal borrowing structures if required.
- Ensure strict management of debtors and effective fee collection aligned with targets.
- Manage the school's Trust accounting functions.
- Oversee the school Pension Fund.
Risk Management:
- Ensure appropriate insurance portfolios are in place and reviewed annually.
- Oversee health and safety policies and structures.
- Manage campus security.
- Ensure the school fleet is roadworthy, insured, and staff are properly licensed to drive.
Annual Audit:
- Ensure completion of audits.
- Finalize annual financial statements and present to the Finance Committee for approval.
Contracts/SLA Management:
- Review service provider contracts to mitigate financial risks.
- Negotiate or implement controls to address risks.
Estate Management:
- Oversee facilities responsible for events, functions, grounds, and building maintenance.
- Manage projects approved by the Board.
General Administration & Other Matters:
- Participate in the College Executive (CEM) meetings.
- Maintain relationships with statutory authorities and stakeholders.
- Oversee School IT, managing the ICT Systems Manager and ICT Administrator.
- Manage HR functions and oversee the HR Administrator.
Education and Experience:
- Teritary Accounting qualification, preferably with Hons level and articles.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Financial Manager or in a senior accounting role.
- Experience in educational finance is advantageous.
Technical Competencies:
- Financial skills, compliance, systems, and reporting.
- Broad business competencies.
