Job summary

Samancor Chrome seeks a senior leader to head the Financial and Administration Team, delivering an integrated finance and admin function for the plants. The role drives strategic financial management, reporting, governance and capital planning in a high‑stakes industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and change leadership to the Financial, Stores and Administration Functions.
• Manage Treasury Strategy including Forex, Capex, Working Capital, Asset Finance and Growth.
• Oversee budgets, cost controls, forecasting, stock procurement and gross operating profitability.
• Represent Samancor Chrome on the board of Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures.
• Review Capital Investment Proposals (CIP) and NPVs; ensure information for approvals.

Job description

To lead the Financial and Administration Team in providing a totally integrated Financial and Administration function to the Plants.

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Department through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Information Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

PEOPLE

Manage The Department

• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
  • Labour complement in line with budget
  • Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Department
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies
  • Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
• Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels

Strategy

• Provide Strategic and Change Leadership to the Financial, Stores and Administration Functions.
• Provide Functional and Process Leadership to Management teams with respect to the investment process.

Strategic Management

• Represent Samancor Chrome on the board of Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures.
• Chair the Rehabilitation Fund and ensure adherence to Trust Deed and relevant legislation.
• Manage the Treasury Strategy in terms of Forex, Capital expenditure, Working Capital, Asset Finance and Business Growth.
• Manage Tax exposure in terms of taxes due, Tax Planning and compliance to legal requirement.
• Manage strategic relationships with Bankers and potential funders.
• Manage and maintain the Samancor Chrome Business Model and Valuation.
• Manage relationships with Group Insurers.
• Mitigate risks by ensuring adequate insurance for assets and liabilities.
• Review the Smelter Closure Cost Reports and make recommendations.

Strategic Customers

• Draft, review and maintain contracts as negotiated in conjunction with legal counsel.
• Assist with the internal interpretation of contracts when required.
• Arrange for internal/external legal opinions where required.

Financial Management

• Manage the Financial, Costing, Capital, Material, Contract and Security functions for the Departments.
• Manage and control the Financial, Costing and Capital processes.
• Manage the various Samancor Chrome Retirement Funds.
• Quantify financial impact and risk of employee benefits.
• Comply with statutory requirements.
• Approve travel allowances and travel claims for payment.
• Approve study loan applications.
• Approve and authorise the Payment process.

Policies And Procedures

• Initiate, approve and ensure adherence to policies, procedure, standards, protocols, work instructions, codes of practice, etc.

Audits

• Manage relationships with external and internal auditors
• Ensure Corporate Governance
• Ensure Best Practices through the implementation of effective internal controls

Capital

• Review Capital Investment Proposals (CIP)
• Review Capital project evaluations (NPV)
• Ensure that required levels of information are addressed to facilitate the approval process

Business Improvement

• Lead Business Improvement by transferring Best Practice
• Ensure standardisation of functional application areas across the business
• Benchmark Global and internal Best Practice
• Participate in all projects and processes as an integral part of the management team
• Review sensitivity and value studies in order to optimise asset utilisation
• Review Financial scenarios and make improvement and implementation recommendations
• Liaise with Projects regarding investment opportunities

Reporting

• Review Financial, Capital and Project Reports
• Report progress against Project Schedules
• Report progress against internal KPI's
• Report to external stakeholders regarding financial performance and controls
• Ensure that reporting timetables are met
• Compile the Leadership Agenda for the Department

Tubatse Chrome Club And Tubatse Residence Facilities

• Financial Management: Oversee budgets, cost controls, forecasting, stock procurement, and gross operating profitability.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor heads of departments (HODs), housekeeping, maintenance, and food and beverage (F&B) staff.
• Administration & HR: Ensure compliance with South African labour laws, performance reviews, and training.
• Maintenance & Safety: Uphold strict facility standards, environmental sustainability, and health and safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements

• BCom Degree or National Diploma in Accounting/Financial management
• 8 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years managerial experience
• MBA/MBL advantageous

Knowledge

• Understanding of the functioning of the international financial markets within the South African context.
• Generally accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of a SAP User.
