Purpose Statement

  • To ensure that insurance financial standards and management reporting requirements are defined and understood by the business.
  • To ensure that actuarial valuations and output delivered for the Division is accurately converted into financial statements and reports and to provide guidance to the Actuarial Valuations Team on reporting requirements.

Experience

MINIMUM:
  • At least 5 years’ actuarial experience including valuation, reporting and/or capital management.
  • 2 years’ experience with statutory financial reporting or auditing.
  • Experience of IFRS 17 implementation projects in South Africa.
  • Valuations experience and intricate knowledge of embedded value calculations.
  • Stakeholder relationship management practices and principles.
  • Experience of working on multiple projects for various parties simultaneously and working with a team with multiple deliverables.
  • Experience of a high performance environment, working to tight deadlines and under pressure.
IDEAL:
  • Quality management principles and practice.
  • Experience of leading, guiding and managing a team (In the future).

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • Grade 12 National Certificate / Vocational.
  • Honours Degree in Statistics or Mathematics.

Knowledge

MINIMUM:
  • Relevant knowledge valuations/reporting and/or capital management.
  • Subject matter expert in:
  • Solvency Assessment Management.
  • Insurance Capital Standard (ICS).
  • IFRS 17.
  • Expert knowledge of actuarial principles, standards, tools, systems, models and methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of the insurance industry and competitor landscape.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and legal requirements related to insurance.
  • Commercial, business and financial principles and practices.
  • Governance and risk management principles.
  • Financial reporting, systems and processes.
IDEAL:
  • Business case conceptualisation, principles and compilation.
  • Elements of a Balanced Scorecard for an insurer.
