Job summary

ESG Recruitment Limited seeks an experienced Final Assembly Supervisor for a Gauteng manufacturing site. You will lead production and personnel, ensure on-time output, manage workload, and monitor attendance while upholding quality standards.

You will coordinate stores, logistics, and repair pulleys, oversee scrap control and housekeeping, and drive continuous improvement. A strong background in mechanical assembly, ISO tolerances, OHSA, and Excel is required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in Final Assembly supervisory/foreman roles.
  • Red Seal Fitter & Turner qualification is advantageous.
  • Ability to read/interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Proven understanding of ISO tolerance tables.
  • OHSA knowledge and experience with Safety/Health/Environmental requirements.
  • Knowledge of labour legislation and basic IR procedures.
  • Strong Excel skills; Syspro knowledge advantageous.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise personnel in the Final Assembly area and manage workloads.
  • Monitor timekeeping and attendance; ensure targets and deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate production activities for efficient flow and output.
  • Inspect assemblies for compliance with drawings and specs; coordinate repairs.
  • Manage stores, stock, and requisitions; coordinate with Logistics for pulleys and transport.
  • Oversee repair pulley operations, scrap control, and housekeeping to maintain standards.

Job description

MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
  • Proven track record in a Final Assembly production environment, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a related supervisory and/or foreman position.
  • Red Seal Fitter & Turner qualification will be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical machining and assembly drawings.
  • Proven understanding and practical application of ISO tolerance tables.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and experience in administering Safety, Health and Environmental requirements.
  • Knowledge of current labour legislation and basic Industrial Relations (IR) procedures.
  • Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel, is essential.
  • Syspro knowledge will be advantageous.
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills at all levels.
  • Must be willing and able to work day and night shifts as operational requirements dictate.
  • Ability to manage stock and effectively utilise the stores requisition process.
  • Excellent technical machine knowledge, supported by a proven practical track record.

KEY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Production & Personnel Management

  • Supervise and control all personnel within the Final Assembly area.
  • Manage workload allocation and ensure effective utilisation of employees.
  • Monitor and control employee timekeeping and attendance.
  • Ensure production targets and customer deadlines are achieved.
  • Coordinate work activities to ensure an efficient production flow.

Quality Control

  • Inspect products to verify compliance with applicable drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Ensure completed assemblies meet the required technical and quality standards.
  • Identify defects and coordinate corrective action where required.

Stores & Materials

  • Order bearings and other required components from Stores.
  • Manage stock requirements within the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that the correct stores requisition procedures are followed.
  • Monitor material availability to prevent unnecessary production delays.

Logistics & Pulley Movement

  • Manage and coordinate the loading and offloading of trucks, including the correct marking and identification of pulleys.
  • Coordinate truck requirements with the Pulley Plant Production Superintendent and Logistics Department.
  • Coordinate the movement of pulleys to and from external processes, including lagging and heat treatment.

Repair Pulley Operations

  • Coordinate the repair pulley process to ensure that customer deadlines are met.
  • Strip and clean repair pulleys and assess the components requiring repair or replacement.
  • Determine the scope of repair work required.
  • Identify and coordinate the manufacture or replacement of components where required.
  • Sketch components, including accurate dimensions, for parts requiring manufacture, such as shafts and other pulley components.
  • Provide the required technical information to Sales and Engineering for quotation purposes.
  • Coordinate the assembly of repaired pulleys.
  • Ensure completed repaired pulleys are prepared and coordinated for delivery to the customer.

Scrap & Housekeeping

  • Identify and coordinate the scrapping of obsolete or uneconomical pulleys and components in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and workplace organisation within the Final Assembly area.
  • Ensure that safety, quality and operational standards are consistently maintained.
