Field Testing Breeding Technical Trainee X2


Job Purpose:

  • This traineeship offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in plant breeding operations and initial practical field trial experience with an international seed company.
  • This program is highly suitable for students interested in a career in agronomic research and crop production.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in seed preparation, planting, harvesting, and data collection.
  • Perform computer-related activities, including handheld data collection, data management, and support for daily activities.
  • Assist in seed lab operations such as seed shelling, packaging, treating, and packet arrangement.
  • Support field operations including machine planting of yield trial plots, nurseries, pollinations, data collection, and machine harvesting.
  • Lead field teams and ensure timely, accurate data collection from research plots.
  • Implement site safety programs to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Participate in evaluating and implementing new technologies.
  • Coordinate with farmers for off-station trials.
  • Approximately 50% of responsibilities involve off-site field activities and travel.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • National Diploma with relevant experience in the discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of crop production, farming practices, and farm equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of mobile data collection is advantageous.
