A company is looking to appoint a Field Technician - Junior to be based in Louis Trichardt.
Key Performance Areas include, but are not limited to:
General:
- Follow set SOPs and procedures.
- Work closely with a Team Leader and Scheduler.
- Maintain project and safety documentation.
- Provide accurate reporting and updates on work done.
- Ensure all relevant stock is available for scheduled work.
- Keep equipment well maintained.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures.
- Complete all SHER and OHS documentation.
- Perform Fibre Troubleshooting: Splicing, testing, dome management.
- Perform Wireless Troubleshooting: Signal testing on CPEs, access points, bandwidth capacity.
- Perform Basic Network Troubleshooting: IP conflicts, firewall issues, routing issues.
- Install VoIP systems.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required.
- Work at heights: House roofs, telephone/gum poles, large buildings.
- Work in crawl and small spaces for installation purposes.
Installation:
- Receive daily job cards for new installations.
- Reference job cards for correct stock needed.
- Confirm clients’ needs are met as per job cards; update Sales or Technical Department for adjustments.
- Install Fibre and Wireless CPEs.
- Perform internal and external cable runs, both Network and Fibre.
- Communicate with Installation Team Leader to confirm RF signal as required on LOS.
- Communicate with Installation Team Leader to confirm Fibre signal and color allocations.
- Set up basic access point and network configurations.
- Verify existing equipment functionality and client satisfaction.
- Upgrade firmware, clean up, and document with photos for quality control.
- Follow quality control procedures with Team Leader.
- Complete installation job card with equipment details, technical info, and photos.
- Inspect site for potential future issues; document accordingly.
- Update Ticket with all relevant work for job completion and invoicing.
Callout Repairs:
- Confirm issues with client as per ticket.
- Troubleshoot efficiently and effectively.
- Identify problems affecting Fibre or Wireless performance; determine solutions.
- Communicate repair cost implications if any.
- Possess product and pricing knowledge.
- Resolve issues on site or replace equipment as needed.
- Confirm repair completion with client and ensure satisfaction.
- Follow quality control procedures with Team Leader.
- Inspect site for future issues; document accordingly.
- Update ticket with all work details for invoicing.
CPE Recovery: Wireless & Fibre:
- Remove equipment and clean up.
- Complete recovery job card with removed equipment details.
The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:
- 1 year’s Fibre Optic splicing experience.
- 1 year’s RF/Wireless experience.
- Knowledge of network structures, crimping.
- Previous experience in the IT industry is advantageous.
- Basic computer skills.
- Customer service experience.
- Basic Networking knowledge is a plus.
- Technical training in Electronics, IT, Networking, VoIP, IP cameras, etc., is advantageous.
- Experience with FO troubleshooting tools (e.g., OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing).
- Driver’s license with a clean record.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective planning and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Fibre cable termination and fusion splicing expertise.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work neatly and accurately.
- Technical mindset.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including working at heights, lifting heavy equipment, etc.
Education Requirements:
- Grade 12.
- Specialized certifications are an advantage.
