Placements24 is seeking a diligent Field Service Technician to join our renewable energy operations in Cape Town. You will install, maintain, and repair solar energy systems at client sites while delivering expert service and guidance to ensure optimal performance.

In this role, you will work independently in the field, travel to diverse sites, and use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot PV installations and electrical systems. A technical qualification and valid driver's license are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site installations of solar panels, inverters, batteries, and associated electrical equipment according to design specifications and safety standards.
• Conduct regular preventative maintenance checks and services on installed systems to ensure peak operational efficiency.
• Diagnose and repair faults in solar energy systems, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
• Respond promptly to service calls and customer requests, providing timely and effective solutions to technical issues.
• Complete detailed service reports, documenting all work performed, parts used, and time spent for accurate record-keeping.
• Ensure all installations and repairs comply with local electrical codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
• Provide technical support and basic training to customers on system operation and maintenance.
• Maintain a well-organized inventory of tools and spare parts, ensuring readiness for service calls.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or in a similar technical installation/maintenance role, preferably within the renewable energy or electrical field.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, solar technology, and photovoltaic (PV) installations.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, blueprints, and manuals.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues.
• Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential for travel to various sites.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a field-based environment.
• Formal technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline is preferred.
