A water treatment solutions company is seeking a Field Service Technician to ensure reliable operation of water treatment plants. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems, alongside adherence to safety standards. Requires Grade 12 and a valid driver license. This role offers travel throughout Gauteng and requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
The Field Service Technician ensures that our Client's customers receive dependable operation of their water treatment plants. The role entails, servicing, operations, maintenance and equipment repairs & troubleshooting on site, delivering safe water quality and meeting service level commitments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Install and commission water treatment systems in line with engineering drawings, quality standards, and safety rules.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration, and parts replacement on pumps, filters, valves, instruments, and control panels.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and process faults, carry out repairs, or escalate complex issues without delay.
• Record all service actions, operational data, and risk findings in the digital reporting system on the same day.
• Provide clear operating instructions and hands-on training to client personnel.
• Verify water quality results, system availability, and performance efficiency during each visit.
• Offer technical input on upgrades or service level agreements that improve plant reliability and cost of ownership.
• Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, completing on-site risk assessments before work starts.
• Keep the Field Service Manager informed of emerging risks, parts shortages, and customer concerns.
REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Minimum: Grade 12
• Preferred: Trade Certificate at NQF 4
• 3 or more years of field service or maintenance experience on industrial equipment; experience in water treatment is preferred.
• Non-negotiable: valid Code 8 or 10 driver license and readiness to travel throughout Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.
• Proven record of completing maintenance work to specification, on time, and within safety rules.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
• Reading and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, single-line electrical diagrams, and process flow sheets.
• Mechanical and electrical fault finding with multimeters, pressure gauges, flowmeters, and vibration tools.
• Basic programmable logic controller and human machine interface interrogation for alarm tracing.
• Water quality sampling and on-site analysis to SANS 241 standards.
• Use of field service management software for job scheduling and report generation.
• Safe isolation, lock-out, and confined-space entry.
• Proficient in chemicals handling and dosing.
• Adept knowledge in water treatment technologies: Media filters, Membranes, and ancillary components e.g. pumps.
