Job description

Leading and well-known construction equipment supplier is looking for a Field Service Technician for the Cape Town Branch.

POSITION INFO :

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Qualified Electrician / Auto Electrician / Millwright is essential
  2. Minimum of 3-5 years Field Service experience: heavy hydraulics, auto-electrical and mechanical fault finding experience
  3. Experience in maritime or port industry will secure: maritime cranes and ship cranes

Duties

  1. Apply electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical theory and related knowledge to test and modify operational electrical machinery and electrically controlled, electronically controlled equipment and circuitry, hydraulic circuits and components, mechanical equipment.
  2. Diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul port equipment such as Harbour Mobile Cranes, Reach Stackers, Offshore- and Ship Cranes.
  3. Complete assigned paperwork as per procedures, including time sheets, work reports, and expense reports. Fill out all forms properly including customer’s signature where applicable.
  4. Cares for and maintains company tools, machines, and equipment.
  5. Operate machines for testing, inspection, diagnosis, and troubleshooting.
  6. Set a positive example in punctuality and professional demeanor by respectful communication with all staff levels, keeping work areas clean and orderly, and promoting safety regulations and all other company programs.
  7. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  8. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) spares and OEM repaired parts.
  9. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  10. Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on company machines.
  11. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using relevant measuring devices.
  12. Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  13. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency and safe integrity of the machine.
  14. Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  15. Oversee the maintenance of quality standards through visual and mechanical inspection methods.
  16. Promote a safe work environment by following on-site safety rules and ensuring compliance with established safety procedures.
  17. Oversee the handling and disposing of hazardous wastes, such as toner, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner, and similar materials.
  18. Successfully complete factory authorized training.
  19. Demonstrate working knowledge of company Service Software (i.e. Sculi and Crane Management software).
  20. Prepare for jobs by checking parts and documentation for accuracy and completeness and any required online safety courses (i.e. customer-specific safety induction, MIST (Minimum Industry Safety Training)).
  21. Complete jobs independently with minimal assistance from others.
  22. Assist customers with troubleshooting, part, and machine-related questions when needed.
  23. Attend training sessions as required.
  24. Maintain a minimum set of tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for job performance.
  25. Maintain a positive attitude and serve as a role model for other employees.
  26. Maintain company service literature and stay aware of technical changes.
  27. Assume the lead person position.
  28. Train and/or mentor others in the department.
  29. Refuse to carry out unsafe tasks that conflict with company procedures or technical rules.
  30. Follow the Field Service policy and the company code of conduct.
  31. Restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
  32. Responsible for ensuring that all field service equipment complies with health and safety acts.
