Job Responsibilities
- Run and control Effluent systems to ensure that DBF system rate is maintained.
- Ensure DBF quantities in storage tanks are maintained and quality through lab analyses and visual inspection to ensure sufficient supply of DBF to the water treatment sites.
- Make timely decisions to backwash the running filter if the filter shows signs of blockage.
- Stop and start Effluent systems according to standard operating procedure (SOPs).
- Operate the filter press and ensure all effluent sent to NCP is free of solids.
- Ensure that both sump pumps are working to pump any floor effluent to NCP dams to maintain housekeeping at the ground floor.
- Manage waste and Hydrocalc.
- Take all plant (Wet end, Dry end, and effluent) samples according to sample schedule or at foreman's instruction and ensure samples are received by laboratory analyst punctually in appropriately marked bottles.
- Check Lab results according to sample schedule to ensure the system runs optimally.
- Perform inspections in the plant on a daily basis.
- Direct any deviations to the foreman for resolution.
- Do plant walking tours and report deviations.
- Do system fault finding and address problems when identified.
- Attend to Daily / Weekly / Monthly Effluent PMs.
- Report any defects on equipment and unsafe conditions and / or unsafe equipment to plant foreman and make the system safe.
- Fill in relevant event books and SPC charts.
- Perform special or emergency tasks and any other task at the request of foreman or appointed supervisor.
- Assist both Dry and Wet End process controllers where required.
- Liaise with Foreman to ensure continuous operation of all sections.
- Ensure effective communication between the dry end and the wet process controllers.
- In the event of a breakdown, clean and prepare equipment for maintenance.
Responsible Care
- Ensure that the EHS and Quality standards are strictly maintained.
- Actively participate in constantly improving Plant and individual safety and housekeeping by engaging in cleaning up work area and spillages, getting and putting away tools, supplies, and equipment.
- This also entails the use of protective equipment as required and proper cleanup when done.
- Comply with all safety rules and safe-job practices.
- Report all accidents / incidents / injuries immediately to his / her supervisor, no matter how small.
- Attend and participate in safety EH&S meetings.
- Report all unsafe conditions to his / her Supervisor.
- Keep his / her work area clean and neat (Maintain good housekeeping standards).
- During shutdowns, work as per instruction from plant foreman, production manager, or designate.
