Job summary

Bushwise in Limpopo, Modimolle, is seeking a passionate Safari Guide & Maintenance Assistant to join our mountainous private game reserve. You will host guests from arrival, deliver engaging game drives and walking safaris, and manage estate maintenance behind the scenes.

The role blends guest relations with hands-on upkeep, including vehicle checks, electric fencing, solar systems, boreholes, and basic handyman tasks. Accommodation and meals are provided, with a negotiable 21–7 roster.

Qualifications

• Experience in luxury guiding and guest hosting.
• Strong 4x4 driving capabilities.
• Basic mechanical/handyman maintenance skills.
• NQF2 and Trails Guide qualification.
• Snake handling certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Host guests from arrival, managing main gate pickups and welcome setups.
• Deliver eloquent, engaging game drives and storytelling for SA and international visitors.
• Lead walking safaris to historic San Rock Art sites.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections using a formal checklist.
• Maintain estate systems: electric fencing, generators, solar systems, boreholes/pumps.
• Assist with garden upkeep and basic handyman tasks.

Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate, charismatic, and versatile Safari Guide & Maintenance Assistant to join our team on a breathtaking, mountainous private game reserve. This dual-focused role requires an exceptional storyteller who can deliver a first-class guest experience, combined with a practical, hands-on approach to estate and vehicle maintenance.

As the first point of contact for our guests, you will set the tone for their stay with a warm welcome, while ensuring the smooth operational running of the lodge behind the scenes. In alignment with our team diversity goals, candidates of colour are highly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

1. First-Class Guiding & Guest Relations

• Host guests from the moment of arrival, managing main gate pickups and welcome drink setups.
  
• Deliver eloquent, engaging, and educational game drives and storytelling tailored to both South African and international visitors.
  
• Conduct specialized walking safaris, leading guests safely to historical San Rock Art sites.
  

2. Vehicle Checks & Safe Driving

• Perform strict daily vehicle inspections using a formal checklist (oil levels, brake fluid, tightening stud nuts, etc.).
  
• Navigate challenging, steep, and mountainous topography safely without off-roading.
  

3. General & Infrastructure Maintenance

• Conduct routine checks on crucial estate systems, including electric fencing, generators, solar systems, and boreholes/pumps.
  
• Perform basic handyman tasks such as fixing plugs, servicing garden lights, repairing sprinkler systems, and safely operating drills and chainsaws.
  
• Assist with basic garden upkeep when required to keep the lodge grounds pristine.
  

Requirements

Candidate Requirements

• Experience: Proven track record in luxury guiding and field hosting.
  
• Skills: Strong 4x4 driving capabilities and a solid grasp of basic mechanical/handyman maintenance.
  
• Qualifications: NQF2 And Trails Guide
  
• Bonus Skills: Certified snake handling experience is highly advantageous.
  
• Attributes: A genuinely warm, friendly disposition, excellent English communication skills, and an authentic passion for the African bush.
  

Salary for the right candidate is negotiable between R13,000 to R18,000.

Our off duty roster normally works on a 21 – 7 cycle but we can negotiate that too if the candidate lives far away.
