Step Into a Role That Makes an Impact! We’re seeking a Field Engineer to drive success at AVI IT Shared Services Division in Bryanston, Johannesburg. This role involves identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems, including installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all PC hardware and software to ensure optimal device performance. The person will troubleshoot issues in person, in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance.

Reporting Structure

• Reports to: Field Engineering Team Lead

Key Areas Of Impact

• Develop strong interpersonal and technical skills for career growth
• Contribute to achieving SLA targets by maintaining personal performance
• Maintain customer service standards by answering call tickets promptly, remaining courteous and professional
• Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user and network hardware, peripherals, and presentation equipment
• Take ownership of user problems, perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of hardware issues, and recommend solutions
• Ensure IT assets are accurate and up-to-date, including patch levels
• Build strong partnerships to share knowledge with team members and other technical groups
• Escalate problems to management when necessary
• Document hardware failures, repairs, and installations
• Research and recommend hardware products for procurement
• Maintain knowledge of hardware contracts and supervise related installations
• Collaborate with internal and external teams on projects
• Train and support end users and staff on equipment operation
• Manage service tickets and escalate issues appropriately
• Maintain OLAs and SLAs, and raise P1 incidents when needed
• Research hardware and software used by the organization
• Interact with suppliers such as Nashua and Xerox
• Pay attention to detail and follow instructions accurately

What It Takes To Succeed

Experience that sets you up for success:

• 5 to 8 years in a similar Field Engineering role
• At least 5 years’ experience supporting HP and Dell hardware
• At least 5 years’ experience supporting handheld devices like iPhones and iPads
• 3 years’ experience dealing with executives in a corporate environment
• Reliable vehicle and ability to standby every 7 weeks

Essential Qualifications & Certifications:

• Matric/Grade 12
• A+ Certificate
• N+ Certificate
• MCSA or MCSE

Advantageous Qualifications:

• Diploma in IT
• CompTIA
• Networking certifications

Additional Requirements:

• Willingness to be re-assigned or promoted due to business needs
• Experience supporting handheld devices and tablets, including MacBooks
• Knowledge of corporate networking and hardware including ADSL, 3G, HSDPA
• Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
• Knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards
• Ability to operate technical tools and peripherals
• Ability to read technical manuals and OEM guides
• Research skills for hardware issues
• Experience with Vid-con and boardroom checks
• Ability to work standby every 6 weeks
