Job summary

Placements24 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, is seeking an Agricultural Extension Officer to provide on-the-ground support to farmers, helping them adopt modern practices and improve productivity. You will disseminate knowledge and work with farmer groups to implement best practices.

The role requires strong communication, field-based work, and willingness to travel extensively within the region. A Diploma or Bachelor's in Agriculture is preferred.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural extension or farm advisory services.
• Solid understanding of agricultural production systems in the Kimberley region.
• Knowledge of crop management, soil science, pest and disease control, and basic livestock management.
• Excellent communication, listening, and presentation skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the region.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and practical support on crops, soil management, pests, and livestock.
• Organize and conduct farmer training sessions, workshops, and field days.
• Facilitate farmer group discussions and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Assist farmers in developing farm management plans and implementing improved practices.
• Monitor agricultural trends and report findings to management.
• Collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders to disseminate new technologies.
• Promote sustainable and environmentally friendly farming methods.
• Maintain accurate records of farmer interactions, activities, and outcomes.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with the farming community.
