Job summary

MAZIV in Durban North is seeking a skilled Fibre Technician to join our network maintenance team. You will manage fault finding, fibre testing, and splicing on FTTH and GPON networks, ensuring compliance with standards.

You will read splice diagrams, label cables, and assist with core network splicing and new installations. A Grade 12 qualification, a valid driver's license, and 3+ years' fibre experience are required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Driver’s license (valid for minimum 2 years).
• At least 3 years in Fibre, call centre or customer relation environment.
• MS Office, Excel skills, Word, Email and internet.

Responsibilities

• Have experience in FTTH and GPON Fibre Networks.
• Demonstrate a high level of experience in Fibre fault finding and preventative maintenance on existing infrastructure.
• Repair Fibre Cable and Splice Enclosures to high standards.
• Route fibre in Splice Enclosures and Slack Bins without damage.
• Read and splice according to Splice Diagrams.
• Expert knowledge of fibre tools and correct usage.
• Fusion splicing methodology and machine care.
• Fibre testing procedures with Power Meter, Light Source and OTDR(IOLM) testing and data analysis on site.
• Extensive fault-finding on existing Fibre Networks.
• Networking experience.
• Labelling of Fibre as per Plans and Conventions.
• Identify problems on new networks and report.
• Assist with Core Network splicing.
• Experience in Fibre installations.

POSITION STATEMENT

Fibre Technicians are responsible for network maintenance duties. This includes time management, assignments, quality assurance, effectiveness, ensure all teams comply with the Britelink and Vuma maintenance and break fix standards

Key Responsibilities

• Have experience in FTTH and GPON Fibre Networks.
• Demonstrate a high level of experience in Fibre fault finding and preventative maintenance on existing infrastructure.
• Have the excellent skill to repair Fibre Cable and Splice Enclosures to the highest standards
• Have strong ability to route fibre in Splice Enclosures and Slack Bins without any damage.
• Have a high level of experience of Splice Diagrams and have the ability to read and splice accordingly.
• Have expert knowledge of fibre tools and the correct usage of these tools.
• Have expert experience in Fusion splicing methodology, Splice Machine care and the usage of Fusion Splicing Machines.
• Have experience in Fibre testing procedure and be able to use Power Meter, Light Source and OTDR(IOLM)(Bi-directional) testing and be able to analyze results on site.
• Have the ability to do extensive fault-finding on existing Fibre Networks.
• Have networking experience.
• Have experience in Labelling of Fibre as per Plans as well as different Labelling Conventions.
• Have the ability to identify problems on new networks and report immediately.
• Assist with Core Network splicing.
• Have experience in Fiber installations
