Overview
Fibre Planner - Senior position to be based in Tshwane or Plattekloof. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The Fibre Planner - Senior is responsible for the design and implementation of FTTH, FTTB, and Carrier-grade fibre networks. This role involves leading projects from feasibility to handover, producing high-quality designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring alignment with technical and commercial goals. The planner will support project forecasting, process optimization, and team development while upholding quality standards across all deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and implement fibre optic networks for FTTH, FTTB, and Carrier services in alignment with network and business requirements.
- Lead the design lifecycle of fibre projects from feasibility through to detailed design and handover.
- Produce high-quality network designs using relevant tools (e.g. AutoCAD, GIS-based platforms).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments (e.g., Project Management, Operations, Commercials) and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
- Ensure designs meet technical, financial and commercial criteria. Support the Planning Manager in pipeline forecasting, delivery tracking, and process optimization.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and ensure QA standards are upheld across all delivered designs.
- Provide coaching and training to junior planners and ensure knowledge transfer across the team.
- Travel as required to support project planning, site inspections, and stakeholder meetings.
Key Outputs
- FTTH Project Delivery: Achieve 95%+ on-time delivery of FTTH designs from initial investigation through to final sign-off, as per project deadlines.
- Carrier and CSS Network Designs: Complete all assigned Carrier and CSS designs with 100% accuracy in line with client specifications and within the agreed SLA timelines.
- Quality Assurance: Drive and maintain a QA pass rate of 98%+ across all designs submitted by the Planning Department.
- Knowledge Transfer & Mentoring: Deliver a minimum of 2 internal training sessions per quarter to upskill planning team members on CSS and Carrier design principles and tools.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Achieve positive feedback (4.5+/5 rating) from internal and external stakeholders regarding design quality, collaboration, and responsiveness.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fibre network planning and design (FTTH, FTTB, Carrier).
- Previous work experience in network carrier designs will be advantageous.
- Proficient in design tools such as AutoCAD, QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of fibre details, civil infrastructure, wayleaves, and permitting processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Education
- Grade 12 is required.
