Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a motivated Farm Operations Supervisor for our agricultural client in Port Elizabeth. You will lead a team of farmhands, direct daily tasks and ensure safety and productivity across all farm activities, with a focus on high quality outputs in varying weather.

Key duties include supervising labor, coordinating planting, irrigation, pest control and harvesting, maintaining machinery, and enforcing health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in agricultural operations with 1+ year in supervision.
• Strong practical farming knowledge of crops and machinery.

About the Role

This role is critical for ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the farm. You will directly supervise a team of farmhands, coordinate daily tasks, and ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in practical farming, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining high productivity and quality across all farm activities, contributing to the overall success of the agricultural enterprise in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the work of farm laborers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to standard.
• Coordinate daily activities such as planting, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting according to the farm plan.
• Ensure all farm machinery and equipment are operated safely and maintained in good working order.
• Implement and enforce farm safety regulations and protocols to minimize workplace accidents.
• Monitor crop progress and field conditions, reporting any issues or deviations to management.
• Assist in managing inventory of farm supplies, seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.

Requirements

• Proven experience (3+ years) in agricultural operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team lead role.
• Strong practical knowledge of farming techniques, crop cycles, and basic machinery operation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team of farmworkers effectively.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations in an agricultural setting.
