About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Farm Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of their extensive horticultural operations in Rustenburg, North West . This is a critical on-site role responsible for ensuring the efficient and profitable cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling of high-value crops. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of horticultural practices, and a proven ability to manage large teams and resources effectively. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, implementing best practices, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety across the farm.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all aspects of horticultural production, including planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest and disease control, and harvesting.
• Develop and implement annual operating plans and budgets, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
• Supervise and lead a diverse team of farm workers, supervisors, and technical staff, fostering a productive and safe working environment.
• Oversee the maintenance and efficient operation of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Implement and enforce stringent quality control measures throughout the production process to meet market standards.
• Manage supply chain logistics, including coordinating with suppliers, logistics providers, and buyers.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Monitor crop health and performance, utilizing data to make informed decisions for yield optimization.
• Develop and execute strategies for water management and soil health improvement.
• Contribute to the strategic planning and expansion of horticultural operations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field. A Master's degree is an advantage.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in farm management, with a significant portion focused on large-scale horticulture.
• Demonstrated expertise in crop management, irrigation systems, and pest/disease control strategies for horticultural crops.
• Proven experience in managing large labor forces and fostering positive employee relations.
• Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in farm management software and relevant technologies.
• A deep understanding of South African agricultural regulations and best practices.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to reside near or commute to the farm operations in Rustenburg . A valid driver's license is essential.
