A leading company in the Chemical Industry is seeking a Farm Manager for their research farm in Wellington. The ideal candidate will possess more than five years of relevant industry experience and a strong educational background in agronomy or a related field. Responsibilities include managing crop production, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in agricultural crop protection.
  • Experience supervising employees is preferred.
  • Educational requirements include a Diploma or BSc in a relevant field.

Position : Farm Manager

Salary : R40-45K per month

Location : Wellington

Our client is in the Chemical Industry and has a research farm in Wellington.

They have a vacancy for a farm manager to start ASAP.

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years’ experience in the agricultural crop protection industry
  • Experience in supervising employees

EDUCATION

  • Diploma, or BSc degree in agronomy, plant pathology, entomology or closely aligned field
  • AVCASA preferred
  • SKILLS

  • Good understanding of crops, pests, and diseases in the Western Cape.
  • Substantial knowledge of business and technical aspects of the product areas and technology.
  • Good understanding of conducting trials.
  • Understanding of GAP.
  • Must be able to work within a cross-functional group setting with significant collaboration but also be independent.
  • Ability to reprioritise regularly and quickly respond to internal and external customers.
  • Effective time management.
  • Effective relationship management with good interpersonal skills.
  • Delivers clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communications appropriate to one’s audience(s).
  • Eye for detail to ensure accuracy, continuity, and completeness of all information.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Software and the ability to learn new programs.
  • Has a high level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in crop protection, agronomy, and ag business profession.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Should be able to handle all aspects of farm management without any supervision.
  • Management and maintenance of all kinds of permanent and annual crops (planting, spraying, nutrition, pruning, harvesting).
  • Manage farm employees that assist in the maintenance of infrastructure, equipment, and preparation and maintenance of permanent and annual crops and field trial sites.
  • Assist the management team with maintaining the infrastructure to deliver quality trials to support RD&I, Marketing and Sales information.
  • Ensuring proper and timeous service and maintenance of equipment, buildings, irrigation systems and other facilities.
  • Responsible for the efficient day-to-day operation of field and greenhouse activities.
  • Gathers information on new farm technologies, new crop varieties, and other developments in local agricultural practices.
  • Improve efficiency and profitability of farming operations
  • Support the Area manager in developing a well-disciplined research facility.
  • Appointed as the Principal Section 16 (2), assigned to assist the General Manager in the performance of his duties to ensure that the Occupational Health & Safety act are complied with.
  • Security control.
  • Performs other miscellaneous job duties as required and / or assigned.
