Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Farm Biosecurity Officer for a large poultry operation in Tembisa, Gauteng. You will develop, implement, and enforce farm-wide biosecurity protocols to prevent disease, protect flock health, and ensure continuity of production in a regulated environment.

The role requires hands-on vigilance and a meticulous approach to hygiene. You will conduct regular audits of facilities and practices, train staff, manage access controls, supervise sanitation and pest programs, and

Qualifications

• A degree or diploma in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in animal health, biosecurity management, or a similar role, preferably within the poultry industry.
• Thorough understanding of poultry diseases, their transmission routes, and effective control measures.
• Knowledge of national and international biosecurity standards and regulations.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and training abilities, with the capacity to effectively convey protocols to staff.
• Ability to work independently and maintain accurate records.
• Willingness to work on-site in Tembisa, Gauteng, and adhere to strict hygiene and safety requirements.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in potential emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and regularly update farm-specific biosecurity management plans.
• Conduct regular audits and inspections of farm facilities, equipment, and personnel practices to ensure compliance with biosecurity protocols.
• Monitor and control access to the farm and specific production areas to prevent the entry of pathogens.
• Oversee sanitation and disinfection procedures for vehicles, equipment, and personnel.
• Manage pest control programs within production areas.
• Educate and train farm staff on biosecurity principles, procedures, and their individual responsibilities.
• Investigate any suspected disease outbreaks or breaches in biosecurity, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
• Maintain detailed records of biosecurity measures, audits, training, and incidents.
• Liaise with veterinarians and external regulatory bodies regarding animal health and biosecurity matters.
