Job summary

The President Hotel in Cape Town is seeking an experienced and hands-on Facilities Technician with a Red Seal Trade Test and 2–4 years of relevant experience to maintain HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing and electrical systems across a 349‑room property. You will work across guest rooms, restaurants and back‑of‑house areas, ensuring safety and high standards.

Ideal candidates are technically versatile, able to fault‑find quickly and excellent at reading diagrams while adhering to health and safety

Qualifications

• Recognised Red Seal Trade Test certification - essential and non‑negotiable
• Technical or trade background in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing or related facilities discipline
• Minimum 2 to 4 years' relevant facilities or building maintenance experience
• Previous hands‑on maintenance experience within a hotel or commercial office/property environment - essential
• Strong technical knowledge across HVAC, air‑conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance
• Experience servicing and fault‑finding on air‑conditioning and HVAC systems
• Knowledge of commercial refrigeration equipment (cold rooms, chillers, etc.) advantageous
• Plumbing experience including piping, taps, toilets, drainage and leak repairs
• Electrical fault‑finding and maintenance within authorised scope
• General building repairs, fixtures, doors, locks and minor carpentry
• Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
• Experience with planned and preventative maintenance (PPM)
• Ability to read technical diagrams, manuals and equipment specs
• Health and safety awareness and safe working procedures
• Experience with CMMS (OMNI or similar) advantageous
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Ability to respond quickly to breakdowns and urgent maintenance
• Professional and guest‑focused in occupied rooms/areas
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, holidays and emergency call‑outs
• Valid South African ID
• Fully updated CV with Red Seal certification and references essential

Responsibilities

• Carrying out day‑to‑day facilities maintenance, repairs and fault‑finding across the property
• Maintaining guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens and back‑of‑house areas
• Inspecting and servicing HVAC, air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems within scope
• Addressing plumbing faults, leaks and drainage issues
• Carrying out electrical maintenance within authorised scope
• General building maintenance and repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors and equipment
• Carrying out planned and preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns
• Responding promptly to urgent maintenance requests and technical breakdowns
• Diagnosing faults and escalating specialist work when required
• Collaborating with Housekeeping, Front Office and other departments to resolve issues
• Monitoring equipment performance and identifying recurring faults
• Completing job cards and CMMS tasks accurately
• Following health, safety and environmental procedures
• Supporting the wider Maintenance team during emergencies

From guest rooms and public areas to restaurants, kitchens, conference facilities and back-of-house operations, our technical team ensures the hotel's facilities and equipment meet the standards our guests expect.

As we continue our journey toward luxury, we're looking for an experienced and hands‑on Facilities Technician with a recognised Red Seal Trade Test certification and a minimum of 2 to 4 years' relevant experience.

This is a multi-skilled technical role requiring practical experience across general building maintenance, HVAC and air‑conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical systems and general repairs. Previous experience maintaining a hotel or commercial office/property environment is essential.

Minimum Requirements

• Recognised Red Seal Trade Test certification - essential and non‑negotiable
• Relevant technical or trade background in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Refrigeration, Plumbing or a related facilities discipline
• Minimum 2 to 4 years' relevant facilities or building maintenance experience
• Previous hands‑on maintenance experience within a hotel or commercial office/property environment - essential
• Strong all‑round technical knowledge across HVAC, air‑conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance
• Practical experience servicing, maintaining and fault‑finding on air‑conditioning and HVAC systems
• Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration equipment, including cold rooms, chillers, freezers, refrigerators and ice machines, advantageous
• Practical plumbing experience, including piping, taps, toilets, drainage and leak repairs
• Good electrical fault‑finding and maintenance experience appropriate to your qualification and authorised scope
• Experience with general building repairs, fixtures, fittings, doors, locks and minor carpentry
• Strong fault‑finding, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
• Experience with planned and preventative maintenance (PPM)
• Ability to read technical diagrams, manuals and equipment specifications
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working procedures
• Experience using a CMMS such as OMNI or similar advantageous
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

What You'll Be Doing

• Carrying out day‑to‑day facilities maintenance, repairs and technical fault‑finding throughout the property
• Maintaining guest rooms, public areas, restaurants, kitchens, conference facilities and back‑of‑house operational areas
• Inspecting, servicing and repairing HVAC, air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems within your technical scope
• Attending to plumbing faults, leaks, drainage issues and associated repairs
• Carrying out electrical maintenance and fault‑finding within your authorised scope
• Completing general building maintenance and repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors, locks and equipment
• Conducting planned and preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and equipment downtime
• Responding promptly to urgent maintenance requests and technical breakdowns
• Diagnosing faults, completing repairs and escalating specialist work when required
• Working closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B and other operational departments to resolve maintenance issues efficiently
• Monitoring equipment performance and identifying recurring faults or potential maintenance concerns
• Completing job cards, maintenance records and OMNI/CMMS tasks accurately
• Following all required health, safety and environmental procedures
• Supporting the wider Maintenance team during emergencies and high‑demand operational periods
